About mancora

Máncora is a beachside town in the north of Peru, close to the Equatorian border.

It is best known for its turquoise water, sandy beaches and good waves.

Arguably the best beaches in Peru are located in Mancora and the surrounding coastline.

Mancora's main industry is tourism and it is well set up for both the local and the international tourist. There are heaps of accommodation options including high end resorts, hotels, hostels and of course smaller guesthouses - like us! Peru is very well known for its great food offerings and Mancora is no exception with a mountain of great restaurants to choose from. (FYI - Vegetarian nd Vegan options are becoming more popular.) Mancora is also famous (or infamous) for being a bit of a party town with plenty of nightlife activity - every night of week!

There's plenty to do in and around town, walk along the Boulevard, shop, eat, sunbake, swim or just relax on the beach. Surfing is big here with the main surf point at Mancora Beach, here you will find surfboards to rent and surf lessons. Kite-Surfing is actually more popular and on windy days you'll find many kites in the bay. There is some busy piers just south of Mancora which atracts turtles and you can snorkel and swim up close with the turtles :) Whale watching season is August to November and there are many whale watching cruises to choose from. If you want to take a break from the beach you can head inland a little and find therapuetic hotsprings and mudbaths, horse riding and plenty of good hiking tracks. Mancora has a little bit of something for everyone!

Year round sun means that Mancora is one of the few beach towns in Peru that doesn't have an off season. The average maximum temperatures are between 25 and 32 degrees celcius and minimums are between 17 to 22 degrees celcius. March is the hottest month of the year and August the coolest. The ocean in the north of Peru is much friendlier than in the south and in Mancora the average ocean temperature is a very comfortable 22 degrees celcius. Mancora does receive some rain normally between December and April and normally only at night.

Other beaches closeby worth checking out are:

Zorritos Beach - less than an hour north

Punta Sal Beach - about 25 minutes north

Los Pocitos - Just south of Mancora town

Vichayito Beach - about 10 minutes south

Los Organos Beach - about 20 minutes south

By bus Mancora is about 20 hours from Lima heading south.

And heading north Guayaquil in Equador is only about 7 hours.
